More Sawyer

Sawyer is already 5 weeks old! He was weighed yesterday and came in at 10 pounds 2 ounces. Apparently he isn't starving. He is sleeping well in his crib at nights. He goes to bed at 8pm and usually wakes up 2 times per night to eat and gets up at 8am. Hazen has been busy with work and will be working Monday-Saturday this week and next week. Will be slowing down slightly after that. Other than that we have just been loving our new life.

Success!!!

Our friend Tera brought us a book that she said we had to read. It is called "The Sleep Solution". It is a sleep training book and talks about how to get your baby to sleep 12 hours a night by 12 weeks old. There are several steps to go through and we haven't really started the training yet. However, Sawyer has never slept in his crib at night. He always has to be with one of us and sleeping in the recliner. I wanted to get him to sleep in his crib before we started the training. There was some really good advice in this book though about getting them to sleep. So we tried it out last night. It was amazing! He slept the whole night in his crib and I only had to get up a couple times to feed him and get him back to sleep. I hope we can do the same tonight.

On a separate note, Mallory came to visit the weekend before last. We had a great time with her and we think she had an amazing time getting to meet her nephew.

Sawyer Gene Armstrong

So it's only taken 2 weeks since Sawyer was born to get a post up. That's not too bad, is it?
Sawyer was born on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:46pm. He was 8 lbs 1 oz and was 21 inches long. I was induced due to a mild case of pre-eclampsia. Basically, my blood pressure was super high, along with a couple other symptoms. The delivery went extremely well. My parents came over that day, unfortunately Sawyer came very quickly and they didn't make it for the birth, but were here a couple hours later. Hazen's parents made it here the next day. They were all very helpful. Hazen's parents couldn't stay long but were able to see Sawyer's first couple days. My dad left on the 4th day, and was replaced with my sisters and my Grandma Barr. Since everyone has left and we've been by ourselves, things have gone well. Sawyer is eating about every 4 hours, sometimes every 5 hours at night. Hazen and I seem to have a good routine down so that we both get as much sleep as possible. So far, things are going really well. Sawyer had his 2 week checkup today. He is back up to his birth weight and is now 22 inches long. We are having so much fun with him. We just can't stop staring at him in amazement. There are a ton of photos here, but we're new parents, what do you expect?

Latest News

Well I had my latest doctor appointment yesterday afternoon. Doc says I'm still not dilated at all :( However, Sawyer may come sooner that we thought. Turns out I have many signs of pregnancy induced hypertension. There is the high blood pressure, spots in vision, pain under my right ribs, huge swollen feet/ankles/legs, and a 5 pound weight gain in one week. They drew blood yesterday and tomorrow I have to go to the hospital to have blood pressure checked again and to do a non-stress test. I guess they just hook a belt around you to monitor the baby's heart rate. My doctor didn't want me to wait a whole week until my next appointment so I will be back there on Monday. Depending on what all the tests say, my doctor says we may have to get baby out next week. We know he is coming but it almost shocked us when we heard it could be that soon. So for now, I am to rest as much as possible, keeping my feet up, and drink plenty of water. Should be a fun weekend.

It's March!!!

Wow, I can't believe March is finally here. Now hopefully we will have a baby this month. I had my last doctor's appointment on Friday and there was no news so far. I am not dilated at all and the doc's comment was "I'd plan on being pregnant the whole month." It's definitely getting more "interesting" to sleep, or maybe not sleep. If I thought I was uncomfortable sleeping a few weeks ago, I knew nothing. Luckily, besides the non-sleeping and the cankles, things have still be going pretty well. I feel very lucky to have had it as easy as I have. I don't have much time left at work before my leave. Only a couple more days this week, 4 days next week, and 3 days the week after that. So I guess only 9 actual work days to go! Then hopefully Sawyer won't be to far along after that. We are getting very excited and can't wait for this little guy to get here. And we can't wait for all of you to meet him.

Blankets and Nursery

I am spending the day washing up clothes and blankets and getting everything organized. Hazen put up some shelves in the nursery and I think it is pretty much ready for baby. I am putting up some pics of blankets that were made for Sawyer and a couple of the finished nursery.

My mom made this one. The back is the giraffe material which is pretty soft.
My great-aunt Avalon made this one. She is pretty talented.
My cousin, Stacee, made this. She used the same pattern as ones that were made for us when were were babies.
Shelves Hazen painted and put up
The rest of the nursery
